Co-Design for Complex Health Communication:
A video series explaining stigma, motivation and experience in people with lived experience of drug use

CONTEXT

This video project was completed over the space of a year, with participants from Streetworks and the assistance of the Inner City Health and Wellness Program. These videos were developed by listening to a series of stories from women who have lived experience with opioid poisonings. Specifically, we interviewed 20 Edmonton and area women who have witnessed a poisoning or were in the presence of people who used drives where poisonings could occur. We asked them to discuss their experience with their knowledge and experience using overdose kits, barriers and improvements that could be made to poisoning reponses and the stigma related to responding in an emergency.

This research was presented at the WCHRI Conference in March 2021.

We would like to acknowledge all of the participants from Streetworks who participated in this project.

We would also like to acknowledge the assistance of the Inner City Health and Wellness Program.

We would also like to thank the funding from the Research at the Intersections of Gender Research Grant.
